Analysis of dangers at the workplace
In accordance with the basic European Guideline on Safety and Protection of Workers (89/391/EWG) the new European Union work safety laws stipulate an analysis of dangers at the workplace. These require the employer to carry out systematic workplace analyses to identify and eliminate the stresses caused by the work and the risks resulting from them.
Computerized processing and evaluation of the data help to make the ABBA (Inspection of Workplace and Analysis of Stresses) system extremely economical. The methods used in the ABBA system are a further development of the Ergonomic Job Analyses Procedure (AET) developed in 1978 by Landau and Rohmert. The K-AET checklist comprises 102 items covering all the tasks and demands arising in a real work system. Supplements are used to collect data on special types of stress.
The results of the analyses are used by the companies internally to produce a workplace register. This register provides occupation- and job-related information on stress foci that can be used, for example, in determining suitabler employment for handicapped persons. In addition to its value within the company, it also has a wider application in the field of insurance law.
