Vergleichende Evaluation arbeitsrehabilitativer Maßnahmen
Diskussionsgegenstand:
Vorgehensweise:

Abstract
comparative evaluation of work rehabilitative measures
The project is the first prospective controlled study relating to the evaluation of inpatient vocational therapy and addressing the specific issue of whether vocational therapy approaches are more effective for schizophrenic patients in the postacute phase than ergotherapeutic treatment not directed towards the requirements of the job market. The hypotheses were tested if vocational therapy measures result in improved job-relevant skills (Arbeitsfähigkeitenprofil AFP), as well as in a greater re-integration into working life, than ergotherapeutic measures. Additional factors of interest included the effect of both measures on the level of general functioning (Global Assessment of Functioning Scale GAF), psychopathology (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale PANSS) and quality of life (Berliner Lebensqualitätsprofil BeLP).
227 patients were randomized to one of the two respective four-week interventions.
Multicenter analyses in the pre-post comparison revealed only minor changes during that time in job-relevant skills and minor intergroup differences in favor of the ergotherapeutic intervention. As expected, an improvement in psychopathological parameters and in the level of general functioning was recorded during that period, but with no intergroup differences. The same applied to general satisfaction with life and to satisfaction with the mental health. Three-, six- and 24-month follow-ups yielded similar results with respect to psychopathology, level of functioning and satisfaction. Nor was any intergroup difference recorded with respect to vocational integration.
One highly consistent finding was that the hospital carrying out the intervention, as a further factor, had a greater influence on the stated variables than the participation in one of the two interventions. Neither of the interventions can be assumed to be more effective with respect to the target criteria.
